Naples fat e-bike tour up the hills to the Posillipo views
A tour on a fat e-bike, the electric bikes with wide tyres, that does what normal bikes in Naples don't: climb. From the Plebiscito to the seafront, then Mergellina and up to the Sant'Antonio terrace in Posillipo and the Parco Virgiliano, with the bay, Pozzuoli, Ischia and Procida in front of you. What you’ll do
You start with a fifteen-minute briefing on how to use the fat e-bike and a few rules for staying relaxed in traffic. Then you're off: Piazza del Plebiscito and the Royal Palace, then Via Caracciolo with the view of the bay, the shopping street of Via dei Mille and Mergellina, with the Fountain of Partenope.
From Mergellina you climb, and this is where the motor earns its keep: the Sant'Antonio terrace in Posillipo, with the city below, and the Parco Virgiliano, from where you see Pozzuoli, Ischia and Procida. Along the way the guide talks through the earpieces, so you can hear even at the back of the group. There's a break with a snack and water.
The last leg is downhill to Castel dell'Ovo, where the guide tells the legend of the egg. There's also an evening version and a seven-hour one that continues to Pompeii, so the tour lasts two to seven hours depending on the option chosen.
Who it’s for
For anyone who wants the views from up high without doing the climbs on leg power: the e-bike does the work. Good for couples and friends, including teenagers used to cycling. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues or using a wheelchair. If you're not at ease in traffic, be aware that you ride on open roads, with the guide leading the way.
Local tip
Closed shoes and comfortable clothes, plus a light jacket for the ride down from Posillipo. If you can choose, late afternoon gives the best light from the Virgiliano. Hotel pick-up is included, so there's no need to get to the starting point on your own. Afterwards, the seafront for a stroll on foot.
