Teatro San Carlo's 2026-27 season opens 2 December with Verdi's Luisa Miller for the 290th anniversary, plus Cinderella in October and under-30 tickets.
Teatro San Carlo, Europe's oldest working opera house, opens its 2026-27 season on 2 December, the same day the theatre turns 290. The opening opera is Verdi's Luisa Miller, conducted by Daniel Oren and staged by Davide Livermore, with Polish tenor Piotr Beczała making his Naples debut alongside soprano Mariangela Sicilia. The season runs to 11 operas, 6 ballets and 14 symphonic concerts.
Opera and ballet before the opening
Before the official opening, Rossini's Cinderella (La Cenerentola) runs from 20 to 27 October. In November, ballet takes over with an evening of Boléro, from 5 to 10 November. Over the Christmas holidays the theatre brings back its Nutcracker, with performances usually also at midday on 24 and 31 December: there's no separate Christmas or New Year's concert at San Carlo, so the Nutcracker is the one live-music date to catch over the festive season.
Booking opens theatre by theatre through the season, so it's worth checking the San Carlo listings a few weeks ahead for the dates that matter to you. For everything else on in the city this winter, Things to do in Naples is updated day by day.
