Pietrarsa among vintage trains, Porta Capuana all December, Limatola inside a castle: the 2026 dates already confirmed for Christmas markets near Naples.
The Christmas market Naples is famous for doesn't sell mulled wine or wooden chalets: it's San Gregorio Armeno, the nativity-figure street, open all year and packed from early November to Epiphany. Markets in the northern European style, with wooden stalls and a themed village, arrived later, mostly in the wider metropolitan area and the provinces, and each one announces its own dates every year, usually in October or the first days of November. There's no single Christmas village that gathers them all: they're separate events, each with its own organiser, ticket and calendar.
Opening dates change from year to year, so always check the market's own website before you go. Below are the ones already confirmed for 2026, with hours and addresses, plus a note on the ones that return every year but haven't announced a calendar yet: we'll update this as soon as they do, also in things to do in Naples.
San Gregorio Armeno, the market that never closes
Via San Gregorio Armeno, in the old centre, is a nativity-figure workshop street all year, but from 1 November it turns into the full fair: stalls spill out right up to the workshop doors, and there's a queue to get into the best-known ones. You won't find mulled wine or chips here, just figurines, moss, fairy lights and made-to-order shepherds, from a few-euro figure to a handmade piece that costs as much as a television. The 2026 programme and hours are in the dedicated article: San Gregorio Armeno 2026: Naples Christmas nativity street. The rest of Christmas in the city, from the Piazza del Plebiscito village to the lights, is in the guide Christmas in Naples 2026.
Pietrarsa, among the museum's old locomotives
From 28 November to 6 January, the Pietrarsa National Railway Museum, in Portici, fills with wooden chalets among vintage locomotives, right on the sea. It's the eighth edition, and the most photographed market in the area: the lights strung between the tracks and the old carriages do more of the work than the stalls themselves. There are also workshops for children and a house for Father Christmas, alongside craft and street-food stands. One thing to watch: there are several closing days around Christmas, so check the calendar on the site before you go, especially if you're planning to visit on 24 or 25 December. Hours are 10am-10pm, some days until 7pm, with entry from 8 euros on weekdays before 3pm, 12 euros on weekends and public holidays, 6 euros for children. You get there on Metro Line 2 or the Circumvesuviana, Pietrarsa-San Giorgio stop, with the museum a short walk from the station.
Porta Capuana and, out of town, Limatola castle
Throughout December, from the 1st to the 31st, Piazza San Francesco a Capuana hosts a market of hobbyists and craftspeople selling decorations, nativity figures and gift ideas, open 8am to midnight with free entry. It isn't a themed village of identical wooden chalets, but real stalls, closer to a craft fair than a northern European market. It's also a chance to see Porta Capuana in a different light: walk there from the station, through the Renaissance arch of the gate, and stop for dinner at one of the neighbourhood's restaurants.
If you have a car, about an hour from Naples is Cadeaux al Castello, the market inside the medieval castle of Limatola, between Caserta and Benevento, now in its seventeenth edition: 26 November to 13 December, open every day, with longer hours at weekends (until 11.30pm on Fridays, in two shifts on Saturdays and Sundays). Inside the castle walls you'll find chalets, lights, music and themed corners in every courtyard, built for a half-day trip with children. Entry starts at 7 euros, 5 for children, up to 15 on the busiest weekends, when evening sessions also open.
Vomero, Fusaro, Edenlandia: the ones that return but have no date yet
A few other fixtures return every year but haven't announced a 2026 calendar yet: the Vomero market, the Christmas village at Lake Fusaro (X'mas Village) with chalets along the lakefront, the Edenlandia ice rink with its Christmasland, the one at the Vulcano Buono shopping centre in Nola, usually open until February, and, in Salerno province, the Fiera della Calza in early January, with its Befana stalls. In past years they all opened between late November and early December, and ran through Christmas or beyond. We're not listing last season's dates here, since they change every year and would only confuse you: as soon as the 2026 dates come out, you'll find them in things to do in Naples.
