Things to do in Naples this weekend: 30 October-1 November 2026

Naples, 30 October-1 November: a general strike Friday, Halloween night, free museums for All Saints' Day and San Gregorio Armeno's early nativity fair.

The weekend of 30 and 31 October and 1 November hits three different fronts: Friday's general strike slowing down the metro and buses, Saturday's Halloween night between underground rafts and dark-legend tours, and Sunday's All Saints' Day with free state museums and the nativity scene fair opening in San Gregorio Armeno. In between there's also a free skating weekend on the seafront and the first roasted chestnuts of the Montella festival. The page that updates every morning stays this weekend.

Short on time? Start with these:

  • Friday 30, general strike: buses and the metro are only guaranteed from 5:30 to 8:30 and from 17:00 to 20:00, leave extra time to get around.
  • Halloween raft night at Galleria Borbonica, Friday and Saturday at 20:00 and 22:00: you sail underground through the old cistern, booking required.
  • Sunday 1 November is Domenica al Museo: free entry to the Archaeological Museum, Capodimonte, San Martino and the Pompeii and Herculaneum excavations.
  • San Gregorio Armeno's nativity scene fair opens Sunday, three weeks earlier than usual.
  • Roller Skating Festival on the Caracciolo seafront, three free days with athletes from more than twenty countries.

Friday 30: the general strike, what's guaranteed

Friday is Italy's national general strike day, and Naples feels it on several fronts. ANM guarantees buses, trams and trolleybuses from 5:30 to 8:30 and from 17:00 to 20:00; metro Line 1 runs its last morning train around 9:15 and resumes at 17:00; the funiculars stop between 9:20 and 17:00. EAV, meaning the Cumana, Circumflegrea and Circumvesuviana lines, guarantees the same two windows, 5:30 to 8:30 and 16:30 to 19:30. The national train strike starts at 21:00 on Thursday and ends at 20:59 on Friday: if you're taking a regional or high-speed train, check the timetable before leaving home, for the return trip too.

The same Friday, after the earlier bus strike a few weeks back, the Pumpkin Village in Casoria reopens as usual, with a straw maze and free workshops for kids. At the PalaVesuvio in Ponticelli another international competition begins, the Under 23 European Judo Championships, three days of free-entry bouts running through Sunday. And in Portici, at the Pietrarsa Museum, the miniature trains are back through Sunday, with a panoramic ride on the Bayardino for 3 euros.

Saturday 31: Halloween night

The full Halloween programme, with every event across Saturday and Sunday, is in the dedicated guide: here are two picks. Under the Galleria Borbonica, on via Domenico Morelli, you head down with a torch and raft through the old cistern, Friday and Saturday at 20:00 and 22:00, 20 euros with booking required: bring a jacket, it's colder underground than on the street. If you'd rather stay outdoors there's the Halloween Tour through the old centre, two hours on foot among dark legends and esoteric lore starting from piazza Museo, with a horror finale and a drink included, 20 euros. From 30 October to 2 November the old centre and the Sanità district also host Uànema, more than thirty free events across catacombs and cemeteries (booking via Eventbrite), with the Fontanelle Cemetery opening at night for the first time.

Sunday 1 November: All Saints' Day, free museums and San Gregorio Armeno opening

Sunday, All Saints' Day, is also Domenica al Museo, the month's first one: free entry to the Archaeological Museum, Capodimonte, the Royal Palace and the Vomero museums, as well as the Pompeii and Herculaneum excavations. It's the busiest day of the month, so arrive at opening time or after 15:00. The same day, San Gregorio Armeno's nativity scene fair opens, three weeks ahead of the usual calendar: the workshops stay open into the evening, with the ribbon cut in the morning and the first figurines dedicated to the America's Cup and Luna Rossa. Exact hours and the pedestrian one-way system for the December weekends are still to be set with the city, but the street is worth a visit any time of year: the practical guide covers what to buy and how much it costs.

With kids

At the Pumpkin Village in Casoria the weekend revolves around a straw maze and pumpkins to pick, only three hundred a day. At Pietrarsa the miniature trains run through Sunday, with dioramas and workshops. At Città della Scienza, over Saturday and Sunday, kids aged 5 to 11 can sleep over at a science-themed camp full of games and experiments, or spend the day at workshops about the fear of the dark for Pinocchio's two-hundredth anniversary. At Teatro Bellini, Saturday at 17:00 and Sunday at 11:00, Teatro nel Baule reads monster stories and then has kids build a small shadow theatre, from age 5 up.

Out of town: Montella's chestnuts

In Montella, in Irpinia, just over an hour from Naples, the 42nd IGP Chestnut Festival begins: the town's official dates are Sunday 1 and Monday 2 November, followed by a second round from Friday 6 to Sunday 8. Stalls selling roasted chestnuts stay open from lunchtime around piazza Bartoli and the streets of the centre, free entry. If you'd rather stay closer to the sea, there's an alternative: in Panza, above Forio on Ischia, the feast of San Leonardo begins, six days of lights, a procession and chestnut stalls in a village that's empty and cheap in November.

With so many different things happening between the strike, Halloween and All Saints' Day, the map of Naples helps make sense of what's near what. The rest of the month is in Events in Naples in October 2026 and Things to do in Naples in November 2026; for any other date, Things to do in Naples shows events and bookable experiences day by day.

For the rest of your stay: things to do in Naples today, this weekend and in the days ahead, checked every morning.
