What you’ll do

You meet in Piazza Museo, in front of the entrance. You go in through the priority lane and start with the Farnese collection, the classical sculptures gathered by the Farnese family: the gigantic Hercules, the Farnese Bull, Greek gods and Roman emperors lined up along the corridors.

Then you move on to the rooms devoted to the Vesuvian cities: frescoes removed from the houses of Pompeii and Herculaneum, mosaics, objects recovered from beneath the ash. The archaeologist explains how they were found, how they survived and what they tell us about the people who lived there.

Finally you pass through the coins and wall paintings, with time to stop in front of whatever strikes you most. The visit lasts about two hours and ends inside the museum. Suitcases, large bags and pushchairs aren't allowed, and the route isn't suitable for anyone with mobility difficulties.
