What you’ll do
Pick-up is between thirty and fifty-five minutes before the activity starts, and there’s commentary on board on the way to Pompeii. Everyone gets a bottle of water. On arrival there’s no queue at the ticket office: tickets are included and the archaeologist guide meets the group at the entrance to the ruins.
Inside, the visit follows the cobbled streets past patrician houses and mosaics, shops and eateries of the time, with the writing on the walls and the lupanar as windows onto daily life up to AD 79. The guide explains in Italian or English, depending on the date. After the visit, the coach takes everyone back to Naples.
Who it’s for
For anyone who wants Pompeii with a proper explanation, without sorting out trains and tickets, and for those short on time: three and a half hours is a morning or an afternoon. Good if you’re staying in Naples, as pick-up is included. If you want to spend a whole day there exploring on your own, a simple ticket will suit you better.
Local tip
