Naples by electric fat bike, from Posillipo to the old town

Naples on an electric fat bike, the wide-tyred bikes that don't rattle on the old town's paving stones and, with pedal assist, climb to Posillipo without breaking a sweat. You ride from the seafront to Castel dell'Ovo, up to Marechiaro and Parco Virgiliano for the view over Nisida and the bay, then back into the old town, from the Duomo to Spaccanapoli, Piazza del Gesù, Santa Chiara and San Domenico. Start

Via Antonio Tari, old town

What you’ll do

You meet at the organiser's travel agency at Via Antonio Tari 18, between the university and Piazza San Domenico, where you pick up bike and helmet and have a short test ride. The basic version lasts three hours, with a guide and photo stops: the Lungomare Caracciolo, Castel dell'Ovo, then the climb towards Posillipo.

The best stop is Parco Virgiliano, the terrace over Nisida, Capri and the bay, with a stretch towards Marechiaro too. On the way back you ride into the old town, where the wide tyres really earn their keep: Duomo, Spaccanapoli, Piazza del Gesù, the Santa Chiara monastery, Piazza San Domenico. Water and a snack are included.

When booking you choose the version: the three-hour panoramic ride, the street food ride, the four-hour history ride with sfogliatella and espresso, the sunset ride with a cocktail, the evening ride, or the seven-hour day that goes on to Pompeii by train, with site entry and lunch. The price depends on the version.

Who it’s for

For anyone who wants both the sea and the old town in one morning, distances you can't cover on foot. No training needed: the motor does most of the work. You do need to be confident on a bike, because in Naples you ride in traffic and on cobbles.

Local tip

If you can, pick the sunset ride: the light over the bay from Parco Virgiliano is worth the booking on its own. Check the version you book carefully, duration and inclusions vary a lot. Closed shoes and a small backpack.

What’s included

E-bike + helmet + guide + water and a snack.
