Naples street food tour of the old town with a local guide
Old town
Tastings along the way + spritz and limoncello
Small groups · 3 hours
Three hours on foot in the old town with a guide who eats for a living, in a group of no more than 12. Starting from Piazza Dante you make at least four stops: pizza first, then the street food Neapolitans eat every day, from the classics to the ones tourists rarely hear about. At each stop the guide explains the dish and the story behind it. One drink is included. The tour is in English and Italian at the same time.

Start
Piazza Dante
You meet in Piazza Dante and head straight into the ancient centre. The first part is all about pizza, the reason most people come to Naples, eaten where the locals eat it. Then you carry on through the lanes with at least three more street food stops.
The stops are chosen to show how people really eat in the city: the classics everyone knows, and the everyday things tourists tend to skip. The guide explains each dish, tells the stories of the places and adds the kind of tips you’d give a friend about what to do over the next few days.
The group is small, 12 people at most, so you can actually talk to the guide. Commentary is always in English and Italian together; other languages need to be requested in advance. Three hours of slow walking in all, with one drink included. It’s more a long meal than a walk.
For people who love eating and want to go beyond the margherita, with time to stop and ask. Works for couples, friends and solo travellers, because the groups are small. Three hours is a lot if you only have one day in Naples; if you have two, this is a good way to start the first.
Local tip
Arrive hungry, seriously. Piazza Dante has its own metro stop, easy from anywhere in the city. After the tour you’re a short walk from Via Toledo and the Quartieri Spagnoli. Comfortable shoes and, in the hot months, the coolest slot of the day. There are twelve places: book a few days ahead.
At least 4 stops + one drink.

About three hours, on foot, starting from Piazza Dante, on the edge of the old town. The pace is slow, with at least four stops to eat; it isn’t a long walk, but you’re on your feet quite a bit.
The tastings at the stops, at least four, and one drink, plus the guide. Pizza is the first stop, then comes the rest of Neapolitan street food. The tastings are meant to replace a meal; anything extra you order at the counter is on you.
The tour always runs in English and Italian at the same time; other languages can be requested when booking. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the start, with a full refund.
