Galleria Umberto I · up to 12 people
6 tastings + 3 drinks
Most popular · 2.5 hours
Two and a half hours on foot in the old town eating what Neapolitans eat on the street: pizza a portafoglio (folded pizza), fried pizza, frittatina di pasta (a deep-fried pasta cake), arancino, then taralli, babà and sfogliatella, fresh mozzarella sliced at a deli, a small glass of limoncello and a gelato to finish. In between, the guide tells the city’s legends as you pass Santa Chiara and the Conservatorio. With nearly six thousand reviews and a 4.9 rating, it’s the most-booked food tour in Naples.

Start
Old town
You meet in Piazza Bellini, next to the remains of the Greek walls in the middle of the square; the guide holds a sign reading Street Food Tour. From there you walk along two of the main streets of the ancient centre and start straight away with pizza a portafoglio and fried pizza, followed by frittatina di pasta and arancino, which here are eaten standing up, paper in hand.
A stop in Piazza del Gesù for the sweet part: taralli, babà and sfogliatella. Then you walk past the church of Santa Chiara and the San Pietro a Maiella music conservatory to reach a salumeria, an old-style deli, where you taste fresh mozzarella among hanging hams and salami. A spritz is also included along the way.
The last part is all about limoncello: you step into a workshop where it’s made and have a small glass. You finish with a gelato. About two and a half hours in all, with lots of stops and little walking between them; latecomers can’t join the group along the route.
Good for anyone arriving in Naples who wants to understand quickly what people eat on the street, families included, as long as children are accompanied. Portions are generous, so come on an empty stomach. Not suitable for vegans or anyone gluten intolerant; vegetarians need to say so when booking. The route isn’t wheelchair accessible.
Local tip
The tour runs in English only: if you’d rather have it in Italian, look at the Italian-language alternatives in the same category. Comfortable shoes, because the old town’s paving stones are uneven. You’re a short walk from San Gregorio Armeno and the Duomo: after the gelato, the stroll carries on by itself.
Tastings along the way + spritz and limoncello.

About two and a half hours. You meet in Piazza Bellini, in the old town, next to the Greek ruins in the middle of the square. Arrive a few minutes early: the group leaves on time and you can’t catch up with it later along the route.
The guide, all the tastings along the way (pizzas, fried snacks, pastries, mozzarella, gelato), a spritz and the limoncello tasting at the workshop where it’s made. In practice the tastings replace a full meal.
The tour is in English. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the start, with a full refund. If you have particular dietary needs, say so when booking: the menu can be adapted for vegetarians, not for vegans or coeliacs; watch out for nut allergies too.
