Naples food and sightseeing walking tour in 2.5 hours

Two and a half hours combining the two things people do most in Naples: eating and looking around. You start from Piazza Bellini and at each stop you taste a different dish, while in between the guide, in English, takes you to the places in the old town worth seeing. Groups of up to 15, tastings included. It’s the tour for anyone with just one afternoon who doesn’t want to choose between the monument and the sandwich.

Start

Piazza Bellini

What you’ll do

You meet in Piazza Bellini, then walk through the old town. The stops are chosen to bring a different flavour to the counter each time: you taste standing up, listen to the explanation and move on. The programme doesn’t list the dishes one by one, but the idea is Neapolitan street food: the specialities people here eat every day.

Between tastings the route passes the main sights of the centre, and the guide talks about them the way a local friend would: what they are, why they matter, what’s round the corner. The pace is relaxed and the distances short, because in the old town everything is close together.

Two and a half hours in all, in English, with a maximum of 15 people. You finish with a full stomach and a clear idea of where to go back to on your own in the following days.

Who it’s for

For anyone short on time who wants a single tour covering both the food and the sights of the centre, without going too deep into either. Good for first-timers and groups. Less suited to anyone who doesn’t follow English well or who wants a proper art tour.

Local tip

Come hungry and wear comfortable shoes: you eat standing up and walk on basalt paving stones. Piazza Bellini is just behind Via dei Tribunali, so before or after the tour you can stretch your legs to the Duomo or San Gregorio Armeno. Weekend slots fill up, so book ahead.
