Naples pizza and tiramisù cooking class with a wood-fired oven

Three hours in a kitchen in the old town making, yourself, the two things everyone wants to take home from Naples: a pizza, Margherita or Marinara, and a tiramisù. You work the dough by hand, learn mozzatura, bake in a proper wood-fired oven and at the end sit down to eat what you've made, with wine, beer or a soft drink. Small groups, twelve people at most, and recipes to take away.

What you’ll do

You start with dessert, so it has time to set. You whip the mascarpone cream, dip the biscuits in coffee and build the tiramisù in layers, with cocoa on top. The chef explains how to tell when the cream is the right consistency and how not to over-soak the biscuits. Meanwhile, bruschetta arrives with local tomatoes and homemade bread.

Then it's the pizza's turn. You mix and work the dough from scratch, learn mozzatura, the art of shaping dough balls by hand, and stretch the base without a rolling pin, just with your fingers. You also make the tomato sauce and top your own Margherita or Marinara. The chef shows off a few tricks with the dough too.

The pizza goes into the wood-fired oven and you watch it puff up and turn golden, while the chef explains how heat and baking time change the result. Then you sit down: you eat your pizza with a glass of wine, beer or a soft drink, finish with the tiramisù and a taste of limoncello. You leave with a diploma and the recipes to make it all again at home.

Who it’s for

Good for couples, families and groups of friends; under-18s must be with a parent or guardian. Vegetarians and vegans need to say so when booking. The three hours are spent standing at the counter, so it's not suitable for anyone who can't stand for long, and it isn't wheelchair accessible. If you're short on time, it doubles as a full meal.

Local tip

Book ahead, places often run out. Arrive hungry: between bruschetta, pizza and tiramisù it's a proper meal, so pick a lunch or dinner slot and don't eat beforehand. Short sleeves and comfortable shoes, flour gets everywhere. Afterwards, Via dei Tribunali and Spaccanapoli are right outside for a stroll.

What’s included

Apron and hat + your pizza and tiramisù.
