Positano and Amalfi day trip from Naples by coach and ferry

The simplest way to see Positano and Amalfi in a day: an air-conditioned coach from Naples with an assistant on board, an audio guide in five languages, three free hours in Positano and two in Amalfi. From April to October you travel between the two towns by ferry, half an hour of coastline seen from the water; in winter you go by coach. What you’ll do

You board the coach at one of the stops in the centre, the first at Molo Beverello, early in the morning. An hour and a half on the road and you’re in Positano. Here you have three hours to yourself: down to the beaches, the vertical lanes, the church of Santa Maria Assunta with its majolica-tiled dome, a coffee by the sea. The audio guide tells you what you’re looking at.

In the afternoon you move on to Amalfi. In summer the trip is by ferry, about thirty minutes with the Amalfi Coast sliding past; from November to March the coach takes you. In Amalfi you have two free hours for the cathedral of Sant’Andrea, the square and the shops full of lemons and limoncello. Then an hour and a half by coach and you’re back in Naples, at the same stops.

Who it’s for

For anyone who wants to spend sensibly and have plenty of free time: there’s no guided walking tour here, just an assistant on the coach and an audio guide, and then you’re on your own. Good for families and for people who like exploring by themselves. If you want a guide explaining every corner, or a small group, look elsewhere.

Local tip

The stops have fixed times and the coach doesn’t wait: be there five or ten minutes early. If you get seasick, bear in mind that the summer ferry depends on sea conditions and can be cancelled. Three hours in Positano is enough for a swim: bring your swimsuit. Lunch in Amalfi or Positano, your choice.
