Half a day on Vesuvius devoted to wine. You leave Naples in the late morning with a pick-up near where you’re staying, head up into the vineyards on the slopes of the volcano and walk between the rows with a guide who explains what grows in lava soil. What you’ll do
You meet at the pick-up point nearest your accommodation, at around eleven. From there the organised transport takes you up to the slopes of Vesuvius, where the vineyards are. With the guide you stroll between the rows: it isn’t a demanding walk, you go slowly, look at the vines, take in the smells and hear how volcanic soil changes the wine.
The second part is at the table. Lunch is a full Mediterranean meal, served with local wines: Falanghina, Lacryma Christi, Aglianico and other typical labels, paired with the courses. You stay seated for a good while, the way people do in the countryside. At the end the same transport brings you back to Naples. About four hours in total.
The tour runs with a minimum of two people and a maximum of 15, so the table stays intimate. The guide speaks Italian or English.

Light breakfast: lunch is generous and there’s more than one wine. Comfortable closed shoes for the vineyards, a hat in summer. If you like, the next day you can go up to the Vesuvius crater or visit the ruins of Herculaneum, which are on the same side of the mountain. Book early: the tour runs with two people, but there are only fifteen places.
