What you’ll do

You board the minibus at one of the pick-up points in the city, given to you when you book, and there’s commentary on board on the way to Vesuvius. At the winery, the family who run it explain why wine turns out differently here: volcanic soil, sunshine, and lava flows that have fertilised the land over the centuries.

Next comes a guided walk through the vineyards on the slopes, with the volcano behind you and the bay in front. Then you sit down to a Mediterranean lunch paired with local wines: Falanghina, Lacryma Christi, Aglianico and other bottles from the estate. The stop at the winery lasts about two hours, between the visit, the table and the glasses.

Before heading back there’s time for the winery shop, where you can buy a bottle of the one you liked best and other produce from the farm. The minibus takes everyone back to Naples, to the same spot you left from. About four hours door to door in total.

Who it’s for

For couples and groups of friends who want a long lunch with a view, without driving or tracking down a winery on their own. Good if you have a free day in Naples and don’t fancy the ruins. Not suitable for anyone with limited mobility or using a wheelchair, as you walk between the rows of vines. The tour runs with a minimum of two people.

Local tip

Wear comfortable closed shoes for the vineyards, which are sloping and unpaved. Keep breakfast light, lunch is generous. If you have the morning free, Vesuvius itself or Herculaneum are in the same direction, but don’t do them on the same day: you get back in the afternoon with a few glasses inside you. Book ahead, places run out.
